The Golden State Warriors are light years ahead of the rest of the NBA. At least, that’s basically what the New York Times reported that Warriors’ owner Joe Lacob said back in 2016. After last night’s upset victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, the Warriors are indeed light years ahead of the rest of the NBA.
Golden State Warriors (1-2) vs New Orleans Pelicans (0-4):
Warriors fans should sleep well at night knowing that their team is at least capable of beating one of the worst teams in the NBA. The fact that the Warriors allowed the Pelicans to score 123 points without Zion Williomson, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick Favors is concerning.
The Warriors are suffering from chemistry issues on both ends of the court. Although Draymond Green’s triple double and D’Angelo Russell scoring the basketball was encouraging, the Warriors’ approach to defense was very uncharacteristic. I hope Lacob learned a valuable lesson. Injuries and free agency happens in the NBA.
I wonder if he still thinks that the Warriors are light years ahead of the rest of the NBA.
“In within the NBA, there’s a belief that the Warriors are a bit arrogant. The story that was in the New York Times Magazine this spring with Joe Lacob where he issued the quote: “We’re light years ahead of everybody.” That quote has been a touchstone throughout the league. I can’t tell you how many times in the last four or five months, when I’m talking with other people in the league, whether it’s agents or executives or whomever, coaches… There’s the reference, “Well, they are light years ahead so they’ll be fine.” – Zach Harper CBS
Battle of the undefeated:
Last night, the Atlanta Hawks (2-0) faced the (2-0) Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers managed to pull off the upset victory on the road. A huge part of that was thanks to the 76ers being the first team to hold Trae Young under 38 points this season.
The Hawks are young and exiting to watch. Trae Young has been on a mission to one up Luka Doncic every single night. The Hawks play twice on national television this week. Be sure to check them out.
The 76ers have proven an ability to defend whatever the opposition throws at them. As long as Embiid remains healthy and active, the 76ers will remain the favorites to win the Eastern Conference.
Other news around the association:
Derrick Rose was the greatest free agent signing the Detroit Pistons have made since before I was born. The Knicks beat someone. Markelle Fultz looks good. Russell Westbrook and James Harden have yet to prove that they can both average a triple double. The Eastern Conference still goes through Cleveland. Giannis Antetokounmpo went through them like a bulldozer. The Spurs are undefeated. Devin Booker is not done done missing the playoffs just yet.
