Thursday Night Football
This was truly one of the first times in a long while that I’ve been surprised by a Thursday Night game. New Orleans had been rolling prior to this game against an inferior Dallas Cowboys team. The trio of Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, and Michael Thomas appeared to be unstoppable, but Dallas’ defense stepped up in a big way. They shut down the big three, holding Brees to only 127 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
The Cowboys defense seems to be showing up and making the turn to a plus-defense at the right time. This is just the first step in their evolution. Key players like DeMarcus Lawrence and rookie LB Leighton Vander Esch could be long-term stays for Dallas.
Even before the game, the bookmakers seemed to have a better feeling about this than I would’ve expected. The Saints were only 7.5-point favorites coming into TNF match-up. Based on how both teams have played this season, I probably would’ve put the game at double-digits in New Orleans’ favor. The line didn’t matter anyway. Dallas won right out, taking a 13-10 victory over the NFC favorite.
