When it comes to drama, excitement, and news, the NBA has no off season. One of the things which has set the NBA apart from other sports is the abundance of quality Instagram pages which cover the NBA. Ever since Omar Raja, founder of “House Of Highlights”, found success by bringing NBA content to fans on instagram, many other pages & brands were influenced to try and achieve similar success through Instagram. I’m very embedded in that community and I’d like to share with you the top 10 best NBA Instagram pages, in no particular ranking order, you need to follow in 2018 beyond the obvious giants like “NBA On TNT” and “Bleacher Report”.
- Bounce: 144k+ followers
The majority of NBA games are played in North America. However, NBA fans are worldwide and they are heavily represented in Australia “Bounce” founder Elliot Isles. Bounce tends to favor the young up & coming teams and players like the Philadelphia 76ers, Donovan Mitchell, and Devin Booker. Hate instagram pages who only talk about the major stars and want a more variety? Give “Bounce” a follow.
- Hoopsnation: 683k+ followers
If I could go back in time to high school and had the abundance of time and energy, I’d like to think that I would apply my efforts like New York’s up and coming star, Buster Scher. Buster founded “Hoops Nation” and has been innovating ever since. From IG lives to Youtube, Hoops Nation continues to provide unique content to their fans while Buster continues to leverage the personal relationships he builds with celebrities around the nation. From what I’ve seen, Buster has also carried himself in a very humble manner, which is admirable considering the amount of success he has achieved in his young career. Interested in a page which engages its followers with interesting content? Follow “Hoopsnation”.
- GreenRunsDeep: 54.9k+ followers
Each NBA fan base has hundreds of instagram fan pages to support it. However, “GreenRunsDeep” brings something else to the table. I predict that within the next two years, every fan base will have their own “GRD”. It takes courage to put your face out there considering the wrath of internet trolls. However, it takes even more courage to recklessly go above and beyond to provide content to your fans without a fear of repercussions from the real “adult world”. Whether it’s through trolling other fan bases in the comment sections or traveling to Philadelphia just to troll 76ers fans, GRD continues to step up his game season after season. I hope next year I can make an article for the top NBA personality for each fan base. He doesn’t have the most followers among Celtics pages, but he definitely provides the most entertaining Celtics supported content there is. Celtics fan? You already know what to do. p.s He’s Out Here and he’s UNDEFEATED.
- TyOneOnSports: 27.7k+ followers
The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers have always been ahead of the game and their presence on instagram is no different. “Ty Savage” is your prototypical true millennial Lakers fan, which of course means she believes everybody is signing with the Lakers and Kobe Bean Bryant is the greatest of all time. However, Ty’s commitment to her fans and haters, interaction with her followers, and growing presence online has earned her a rapidly growing follower base from Lakers fans and haters alike. Ty has also been seen hosting famous youtube sports shows via “The Fumble”. Hate the Lakers? Love the Lakers? Give “TyOneOnSports” a follow.
- SneakerReporter: 70.7k+ followers
Hip Hop culture and NBA culture have always been intertwined. However, the admiration of basketball sneakers has only been expanding over the last few decades. Travis Singleton has found a way to combine quality NBA & sneaker news in a way I haven’t seen anyone else do besides Bleacher Report. Considering OKC is a small market, I’ve found SneakerReporter to be a quality follow in order to find out news and read takes from a perspective I don’t usually find online. Thunder Up.
- Vndsgn: 82.5k+ followers
Jersey swap pages have become a saturated market online. However, real NBA fans know Nikola Vukotic is the OG. With over 400,000 followers on Facebook, Nikola has taken his page to instagram and has been killing it there as well. His quality jerseys swaps are unmatched; and the fact that he does it while reporting on NBA news and rumors makes “vndsgn” a must follow for NBA fans.
- AshleyNevel: 6.1k+ followers
Ashley Nevel is the definition of a “Go-Getter”. She constantly grinds, hustles, and innovates to bring quality NBA (and college) content to her growing fan base, and while empowering other women to be brace and successful in their own professional careers. Ashley doesn’t take “no” for an answer, which is part of why she’s always popping up at various NBA events throughout the year, including the NBA Summer League. What I also admire, and players appreciate, about Ashley is that she is aware that the media often asks the players too many generic, boring, or to be honest, dumb questions. Ashley has taken it upon herself to ask the players out of the box and interesting questions. We’ve seen her on ESPN & NBATV, but I’m willing to bet we’re going to see a whole lot more of Ashley Nevel and I love it.
- SeeMikeDunn: 106k+ followers
Can you hear Jimi? Mike Dunn is more of a basketball focused page than an NBA page. However, he does constantly break down NBA (& WNBA) players’ jump shots in great detail, in ways I’ve never seen anyone do before. Mike didn’t make this list just for that though. To make this list, I needed to see a connection with your fan base, beyond what a generic meme page could create. Mike has perfected that with his fan base, and even given balding jabronis like myself hope with life after hair. From “Thank God It’s Monday” to “It’s Grind Season Homie”, Mike has risen to become one of the most influential personalities on instagram for thousands of young ballers around the planet. Want to shoot like the best of them? Give “SeeMikeDunn” a follow.
- BALLGOD: 455k+ followers
In a field full of kings, what’s a king to a God? Many of us remember “LegionHoops”‘s rise to fame on twitter. BALLGOD is basically a more interactive, and better if I might add, version of that on Instagram. Whether it’s through reporting NBA news via credible sources or engaging the fans, BALLGOD is truly the God of NBA Instagram. I’ve seen legends like Tracy McGrady, current superstars like Kevin Durant, and hundreds of other professional athletes comment on and like BallGod’s content. Needless to say, BallGod is a Canadian national treasure and if you don’t follow him/her/who knows, you’re missing out on the best NBA page on Instagram.
- PerSources: 124k+ followers
Per Sources was founded by myself, @TPRx11, with the intent to connect with NBA fans around the country. However, what emerged from it was a community of die-hard NBA fans who follow the drama behind the scenes as closely as they follow the actual games being played. “The Great TPR”, my online persona, embraces several roles online from a protagonist, villain, instigator, and many more; while maintaining his ability to provide actual analysis of going on around the NBA. “Per Sources Misses Nothing” was a slogan created by our fans after a series of consistent accurate predictions through several NBA seasons, and has been embraced by our fans. PerSources is also the creator of the “PNG”, the Per Sources Post Notifications Gang. Per Sources also uses its social media following to bring attention to our growing pool of young writers around the country via our website. If you want a page which actually gives opinions on NBA topics with inside jokes and an online interactive community, give “PerSources” a follow. If you don’t love Per Sources, you don’t love NBA basketball.
While there are hundreds of great NBA pages on Instagram, these are the top 10 pages which I think fans of any fanbase would enjoy following. They each have the ability to provide quality NBA content, while actually connecting with their followers. The IG game isn’t easy, but it sure is fun. I’ll be redoing this list end of the year with updates for you guys as well.
Think somebody else should have made the list? Tweet me @TPRx11
Bonus up & coming page:
TheLeagueSource: 37.1k+ followers
Every year, a new player enters the field bringing a little something new to the table. The League Source captured my interest in 2018 in ways he just didn’t in 2017. People underestimate how much work goes into managing an instagram page with unique content. The League Source has been leveraging his photoshop skills and developing sense of NBA humor to bring a breath of fresh air to the #NBAMemes community. If we had a rising star challenge, “TheLeagueSource” would be a starter.
