The Celtics have had a rough start to their season as far as record goes, but the production out of Guard Jaylen Brown and Forward Jayson Tatum is quickly turning things around for Boston.
Coming into the league, there wasn’t a lot of hype surrounding Brown. The third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft saw average minutes last season (17.2) and honestly was just an average player. Being promoted to the starting lineup this season, Brown has been nothing but impressive. With Hayward gone, he’s picked up the scoring load offensively to aid Kyrie Irving in the front court, and he thrives on the defensive end of the floor. Boston has depth, and it only took a few games for it to show.
With the Larry Bird comparisons to rookie of the year conversations, Tatum has been turning heads. Filling in for Hayward isn’t easy to begin with, but he’s taken the challenge and ran with it thus far. The season is young, but the Duke product is even younger, and it should spark a sense of relief to Boston fans on how well he is playing. Tatum is living up to big expectations and is expecting a lot from himself as well. Like Brown, he’s a guy who plays both ends of the floor well, and he leads the C’s in blocks at 1.3 per game. His 6’8″ 205-lb build is a scary combo, and he’s only 19 years old.
Boston’s record may be 2-2, but the NBA season is just beginning. With Irving, Horford, Tatum, and Brown the Celtics have created a rising big four moving forward. Boston’s season looks promising, and the potential that is seen through Tatum and Brown creates a sense of relief that the turnaround for the Celtics is about to begin.
The Celtics tip-off against the Greek Freak and company tonight at 8PM on TNT.
