Richey’s NBA Couch Talk Week Two

Richey's NBA Couch Talk Week Two

Welcome back to your favorite therapy couch talk. The second week of the NBA brought out some unexpected teams and some unsung heroes. I might start giving you guys some games to look out for, because last week I was on the money. If you didn’t read week one  I said watch out for the Magic, Nets, and Pacers as sleepers, and the Cavs could struggle. I also said Kyle Singler is in the Thunder’s big four…. anyway lets get started with Richey’s NBA Couch Talk Week Two!

1. Giannis AnteteGoat

I held off talking about Giannis last week, because I wanted to see if he would still produce the same stat sheet. To be honest, I just wanted to watch more greatness. Giannis is averaging 33.7 points per game with 10 rebounds and 5 assists. He was my preseason MVP candidate, and I think he’ll lead the race the whole season. If you didn’t know, he’s playing for more than just the Bucks, he’s playing for his father who passed away before the season. Giannis has a bright future ahead of him and could be the next face of the NBA. I honestly think that with the right pieces, and maybe a solid “number two” type player, the Bucks could be a scary team in the near future.

2. Eric Bledsoe- Hair Cut or Get Cut

Before I start go check out James Macey article about this Bledsoe situation! If the Phoenix Suns didn’t already have enough problems they caught another one with their “underachieving” superstar, Eric Bledsoe. Bledsoe tweeted this:

As you can imagine, ownership wasn’t happy with this, but the NBA world was ecstatic. Bledsoe later came out and said he was tweeting about not wanting to be at a hair salon.. that’s the worst excuse I’ve ever heard. The Suns started looking for trade partners to get Bledsoe out. In my opinion, the Knicks would be best place for the Suns to get young talent. But I would like to see Bledsoe get use out of his remaining years at the Pelicans or Bucks.

3. Ben Simmons ROTY?

As you should know, the 76ers curse is real and is equally as bad as the Kardashian curse. This curse is basically where the 76ers get high draft picks and some (most) of those prospects get injured. Well, Ben Simmons missed his first year with a foot injury, so his rookie season started this year. Simmons is a 6’10” forward who is playing point guard, and I love it. He has great court vision, can get to the rim and finish, and is athletic enough to guard virtually anyone. NBA fans love comparisons, so I’m going to throw this out there, I see a Magic Johnson type player in Ben Simmons. I think he could put some crazy stats out if he has the right players around him, and as long as they stay healthy. Honestly, I don’t see another rookie who can out preform Simmons this season.

4. Has Anthony Davis Fallen in a “NBA Shadow”?

Before all 10 Pelican fans in existence come at me, let me explain. Anthony Davis is in his sixth NBA season, and I think he might be trapped in the small New Orleans’ market. I’m not saying Davis is bad. He’s the best big man in the league, but this isn’t a “big man” league anymore. The Brow has a career average of 22.5 points, 10 boards, and a .514 field goal percentage. His performance has gone under the radar. It’s hard to be a superstar in a small market (for the exception of Westbrook last year and Giannis now), so I believe Davis’ career will be overlooked. Especially with having Boogie on your team and what he brings with his personality.

5. The NBA Could Overtake The Major Sports “Table” in America.

The NFL has ran the American sports entertainment spot for the past four decades. Well, I believe that will be on the decline with NFL ratings going down with the increase of CTE studies and the involvement of politics in the NFL. So, this leaves the NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS left in America. I don’t want to go to far into this, but the NBA is the most popular of those leagues. With the exception of the Bulls, all the teams in the NBA aren’t complete trash. Also I don’t see the Warriors running the league for much longer with the rise of young stars.

Favorite Moment:

My favorite moment from this last week has to be from Draymond Green talking trash about Wesley Johnson from the Clippers. I just love old fashioned NBA trash talk.
