NBA 2K19 Has Been A Disappointment

NBA 2k19 Disappointment

Now that 2k has been out for some time now, you’ve either been playing constantly throughout the year, sold the game, or taken a few months off like I have recently.

I’ve been getting back into playing, and I’m not a happy camper. 2K has been a disappointment this year for a few reasons.

2K ELeague

When they brought this to life for the first time last year, I’ll be honest, I was excited, but it isn’t worth it at all. This year, the requirement was 100 wins in Pro-Am and Rec with above a .500 win percentage. Once you completed that you were put into the combine with a player of your choice and put at an 80 overall to compete.

Let me tell you why this was a waste of time and how my teammates and I have been distant from the combine. You can’t play with your friends, so in other words, you have to play with randoms. The amount of headaches and lost games are as bad as those rec games where players just throw up any jump shot. Everyone wants to be the man out on the court, forgetting the goal is to win and get a good teammate grade. Everyone is so concerned with numbers that they forget about team play. I’d much rather play with the same guys I’ve been playing with for years.

Not to mention that there are only 50 spots, and teams already have their players picked before the combine even starts. An overall disappointment 2K!

Leveling up

I’ve heard many people in the 2K community complain about leveling up their player. Constant gameplay for a month-and-half will only move the bar an inch. Those four practices, hour-long rec games, and park games just aren’t enough to see an improvement. This is one of the main reasons why people give up playing; they see no change.

Nothing to play for

Remember those “Road to the Finals” tournaments that made you get on and practice throughout the week to get yourself prepped and ready for an all-day affair on Saturday? I haven’t seen that since 2K15, and I’ve lost motivation to play because there’s nothing to play for.

If 2K implemented this back into the game and added more tournaments like this, the game would see more traction. A huge part of the 2K community is Pro-Am, and it seems like there’s no emphasis on this game mode.

Pro-Am

Since I brought it up I might as well dwell on this for a bit. I haven’t played team Pro-Am yet for two reasons.

  1. I always get “unable to connect to 2K server. Please try again later” while trying to join the arena.
  2. Everyone I come across says the same thing to me “we need the right five on the court”

It seems like everyone’s so scared to play the mode because it’s actually more competitive than last year.

Let’s face it, every year 2K comes with a great game, then the flaws come out. If you want to make a good game put emphasis on everything and hit all markets of the game. Christmas is right around the corner and there’s a weekend full of events and double rep. This might distract players for the time being, but lately, the game has been stagnant.
