This year’s draft was stacked. We have players with HOF potential like DeAndre Ayton, Trae Young, and Collin Sexton. However, no player has stood out more than the 19-year-old, Luka Doncic.
The Draft
Phoenix drafted Ayton over Doncic, which was understandable, but then the Kings drafted Marvin Bagley. With the third pick, the Hawks traded Doncic’s rights for the rights to Trae Young. That can be a bad move for both teams since they can easily turn to be a bust. In some years we may be talking about how the Hawks traded away Doncic’s rights for a player who
As a basketball fan, I heard about this kid in Europe who won the MVP and the championship at just 18. When I saw the highlights I was sure he was going to be the best player of that draft. He hasn’t disappointed. This past week Doncic made a two-man list of players to reach 500 points, 150 rebounds, and 100 assists by his 28th game since 1983. The other player to do this was LeBron James.
Season Overview
Doncic is averaging 18.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game. He’s leading the rookie ladder. Meanwhile, Young and Bagley aren’t even in the top-five. He’s also shown he has the clutch gene in him. Last week, Doncic went on an 11-0 run to help the Mavs beat the Rockets.
Conclusion
The doubters thought his game wouldn’t translate to the NBA, but as Doncic himself said last week, “it’s just basketball. If you’re going to make shots there in Europe, you’re going to make shots here.” He showed the most potential out of any player before the draft, and his performances have shown that he may be a generational player.
