2K is like a rollercoaster. You have your ups and downs. If you’re competitive, like me, you’ve probably broken three controllers, blamed 2K for everything, and made more characters than you can count. Recently, I’ve been attached to Rec and Pro-Am and have been looking at a variety of different builds. I’ve compiled 2K’s best builds for these modes.
5. Playmaking Sharpshooter
Not only was this build looked down upon earlier in the year, but it’s one of the most useful and efficient builds in the game right now. Nearly 75% of 2K gamers have this build. They can be some of the most-clutch shooters or drop a dime through three defenders if need be.
Although the badges are decent with all gold shooting badges, the playmaking can be a bit tricky. Dimer is on silver, but with your ball-control at an 82, timing your passes is key. Most “Play-Sharps” I come across are always in a hurry to get the ball up the court. Then, in the blink of an eye, our six-point lead turns into a 10-point deficit.
Players also get too caught up in shooting and often shoot themselves right out of the game. This build gets mistaken for a “Pure Sharp,” and I have a hard time understanding it because it’s way more complex than that. Overall, you’re looking at a 91.2% attribute efficiency and an 83% overall efficiency.
4. Rebounding Rim Protector
These builds have been a lot more popular within the last two months because of the need for quality big men. As many of you know, the Big Man position in 2K has grown scarce. However, with this build, you get a little bit of everything (on defense). With six Hall of Fame badges in Brick Wall, Bruiser, Rim Protector, Chase Down Artist, Defensive Stopper, and Charge Card, this build is nearly unstoppable on the court. You really need to re-think the game plan when this build is on the court because nothing will come easy in the paint.
Now, I’ve seen people make centers and power forwards with this build, and here’s how it breaks down for both builds.
Rebound Rim 7’3″ C:
- 6 HOF Badges
- 75.7% Badge Efficiency
- 94% Attribute Efficiency
- Better in 16/31 attribute categories
Rebounding Rim 6’11″ PF:
- 5 HOF Badges
- 76.2% badge efficiency
- 93% attribute efficiency
- Better in 16/31 attribute categories
The two main presets are very similar, but if you chose the PF, you’ll be quicker on your feet, more alert to the ball, and be able to expand your range from deep. You won’t have the luxury of having Rim Protector on HOF. With the C position, you’ll be stronger, which will complement being a big presence on the glass.
3. Pure Sharpshooter:
How many of you were afraid to make this build at the beginning of the game? 2K did a great job playing mind games on us when they said the shooting wasn’t going to be as relevant. Man, was that a joke! Every team needs a pure shooter on the court. It automatically creates stress for opposing teams.
Most “Pure Sharps” I see are 6’6″ at SG. With your mid-range and open-shot 3PT at a 90, it makes it impossible to slow down a shooters rhythm. What blows my mind is that they give you Bronze Defensive Stopper, and the lateral quickness is at a 76. That’s just enough to give these builds that side-to-side cheese or the ability to lose their defender on the wrap around. We all slept on this build!
2. Pure Glass Cleaner:
Let’s face it, this is one position we don’t want to play ourselves. However, it’s the one we all need it on the court. This build is therapeutic to a lot of 2K gamers out there because, with this build on the court, it allows everyone else to have the freedom to do whatever they want to do. I mean what can go wrong when you have 99 rebound and HOF Putback King?
One thing the Rebounding Rim doesn’t have that the Glass Cleaner does is strength. Once they grab that rebound they have a better chance of getting a contact dunk than the rebounding rim in many circumstances. This is the #1 build that people always look for on the group posts, and if you can find a solid glass with some IQ, then all the power to you. The offensive rebound will forever be the most valuable aspect to 2K.
1. Pure Lockdown:
If you didn’t know by now, this build is the wave this year. One thing 2K wasn’t lying about was how relevant defense was going to be. Ronnie, I think you might’ve made this position a bit too overpowered in my opinion.
With Silver Corner Specialist (yes I didn’t stutter) these builds consistently out-shoot primary shooting builds all the time, and they aren’t afraid to attack the rim with ease. Depending on what position you make them, they get seven HOF badges with a 3PT ranging from 66-71, which is very cheesy.
Ever get excited to play a Pro-Am or Rec game, and then you see your matchup has the lockdown takeover badge? If this build doesn’t make you want to turn your Xbox off and sell 2K, then you must not be playing the same game as me.
