When it comes to NBA 2K everything changes for me. I have to tell my friends and family that I won’t be around much for a few months, procrastinate on my school work, and lock myself in my room to play. That’s how much I love 2k. I love it so much that every year I end up spending $100+ on the best edition available. As the game continues to get closer here are five things I love about 2k:
#5: The Prelude
This is one of the best things they could’ve done for 2k heads like myself. Letting us play a few weeks early to get a jump start on the career mode to gain an advantage makes the excitement for the game that much sweeter. Who wouldn’t want to play 2k19 on August 31 for a few hours?
#4: Career Mode
Every year they change the story up, making it more believable. I like what they did this year making you play in the G-League. They brought back a taste of what 2k11 was when they didn’t just reward your poor play and put you in the D-League to try and earn a 10-day contract. They never fail to make it the most realistic NBA game there is.
#3: Pro-Am
As I mentioned before, Pro-Am has been my main game mode for years, and my team has had years of experience together. Every August we get together and discuss what positions to make, who we’re going to bring on, and how the game is going to work. Pro-Am allows us to showcase our talent against everyone in the world. 2K is paying a lot of attention to Pro-Am this year, and I’m positive that there will be a huge difference from the prior year.
#2 The Park/Jordan Rec Center
Yep, it’s making its return from the 2K14 days. I’ve been hearing that they’ll bring the Jordan Rec center back. It was probably the most convenient way to play 5v5 and not have to load into a neighborhood or “MyCourt” taking up at least 20-40 minutes just getting your squad ready. The shorter the wait time the better the 2K community will feel about the game.
#1.5: Summer League
Again I’m going back to 2K11, arguably the best 2K ever made. During the career, I want to be able to play through a Summer League instead of just getting drafted into the NBA. To me it didn’t feel authentic. All these guys go through various obstacles to get drafted and earn a roster spot. Why not show us gamers what that’s like?
#1: Player Progression/Stats
Throughout the career, you have this thing called player progression. This calculates how valuable you are on and off the court. I wish they had this for Pro-Am to make it easier for people to understand how valuable a player is to a team. It would make arguments end quicker knowing that there’s proof of how poorly or great you played.
Maybe you don’t have a certain archetype needed for the lineup or two people joined the party at the same time and both want to play. The player progression system can save lives. I don’t expect to see it in 2K19, but I love utilizing it in MyCareer.
Being a gamer requires sacrifice, especially when there’s a bigger end-goal. Sometimes I spend more one with my 2K team than I do pay attention to school, my family, etc. It gets serious, and every year is a year to dominate and see what people are made of. Are you a hardcore gamer like me?
