Drew Brees Should Be In The GOAT Debate

Drew Brees GOAT

Drew Brees has consistently been a top quarterback in the NFL. In his 10 of his last 12 seasons,  Brees has started at least 15 games and thrown for at least 4,000 yards on his way to 11 Pro-Bowls. He’s also just 200 yards away from breaking the record for career passing yards, currently held by Peyton Manning at 71,940 yards. So, why isn’t the consistently great Drew Brees in the debate for the GOAT. Sure, Tom Brady has four Super Bowl MVPs and five Super Bowl rings. Don’t get me wrong, he deserves the GOAT title. But, when I hear people talk about the GOAT, I hear Aaron Rodgers, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, but never Drew Brees.

That truly amazes me.

Brees is a great quarterback and leader. If he was put with Bill Belichick, I think he would have a career that would rival Brady in terms of team success. Tom Brady has had a career that has been unmatched. Brady’s been given a plethora of great targets to throw to. Randy Moss, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Deion Branch, Troy Brown, and Wes Welker have all caught passes from Brady. That’s a pretty great bunch. Drew Brees’ best targets have been Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, Michael Thomas, Brandin Cooks, and Lance Moore.

Even an average fan could tell you that Brady’s targets are much better. Randy Moss had many years before Tom Brady that saw him surpass 1,000 yards. He was a proven superstar. Moss proved he could be successful on other teams. Jimmy Graham, on the other hand, hasn’t surpassed 1,000 yards receiving without Drew Brees as his quarterback. Brees makes all of his receivers absolute studs, and so has Brady. Overall, however, Brady has been surrounded by more talent than Brees has.

I’m not saying that Drew Brees the GOAT, but after so many years of being a stud QB with mostly mediocre receivers, how can he not be in the debate?
