The Chicago Bears appear to have taken the big step fans have been looking for. Are they finally in playoff contention? Chicago’s success looks real after bringing Fitzmagic to an end on the way to a dominant victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mitchell Trubisky, the man who’s been questioned the past year and a half, looks to have finally had that breakout game he needed to prove to Chicago that he can be the QB they hoped for when drafting him second overall in the 2017 draft. Trubisky went off, throwing for 354 yards, six touchdowns, without an interception. He also added 53 yards on the ground. It was a statement victory for Chicago and a statement performance for Trubisky.
The defense has been arguably the best in the league over their first four games, leading the team to victories with limited success on the opposite side of the ball. They’ve collected 18 sacks (first in the NFL), 11 turnovers, and two defensive touchdowns with Khalil Mack leading the way. This is the best Chicago defense since the days of prime Urlacher, Briggs, Peppers, and Tillman.
It appears the Monsters of the Midway are back. The defensive production for Chicago is a necessity if they want to contend in the challenging NFC North.
Another challenge ahead of the Bears is their schedule. The Bears still have to play the Rams, Patriots, and the Vikings (twice). Those should be four tough games for Chicago. They also have to play Aaron Rodgers one more time before the season ends, and last time didn’t end so well. It’s truly tough to say the Bears defense can continue this defensive domination against the high-powered offenses they’ll play over the remainder of the season. If they can, however, they’re undoubtedly Super Bowl contenders.
With so many questions surrounding the Chicago Bears, people begin to wonder: can they really make the playoffs with the offensive inconsistency so far? There are too many questions to answer about the Bears’ coming weeks, but one thing is for sure. The defense is stacked and playing well. Are they playing well enough to carry the offense to the playoffs and potentially further?
We’ll have to watch for those answers.
