After Kareem Hunt was released from the Kansas City Chiefs, he was suspended indefinitely pending a league review of the situation. As of right now, Hunt is unemployed and hasn’t received word on when he’ll be able to step on the field for a team again. Until Hunt has received his suspension, we won’t know if anybody would even entertain the idea of signing him.
He’s been a very successful back in this league. In his rookie season, Hunt ran for over 1,300 yards, and eight TDs while also bringing in over 50 receptions for 455 yards and three TDs. Needless to say, Hunt has seen success in the
BEST FIT: Chicago Bears
It’s obvious that I like to talk about the Bears. I mean, they’re my favorite team. But in this case, they’re truly the best fit for Hunt. Matt Nagy repeatedly said, over the past season, that he was going to find a way to get Jordan Howard the ball. He just couldn’t find a way to do that consistently.
In Nagy’s offense, the running back position needs to be able to catch the ball and run with efficiency. Jordan Howard (as much as it pains me to say this) just isn’t the right back for this offense. Tarik Cohen isn’t the right running back for the offense either. He’s meant to play the position that Tyreek Hill plays in the Kansas City offense. Tarik Cohen is not an RB1. The Bears need an RB1, and Kareem Hunt could be the guy.
WHY THE BEARS?
There are so many reasons why the Bears are the perfect fit for Hunt. Not only has he already proven how efficient he can be in Nagy’s offense, but the Bears could probably sign him for much lower than market value because of his connection with Nagy and Trubisky (they were good friends as kids).
The Bears don’t have a lot of cap space left and only have five selections in the upcoming draft, none in the first two rounds. That’s where Jordan Howard comes in. I love Jordan Howard, but as I said, he just isn’t the right fit for Nagy’s offense. However, a team like the Raiders, 49ers, or Texans would be interested in acquiring Howard via trade. This would help the Bears obtain some draft capital for the upcoming draft.
All of this sounds ideal for Hunt. However, the only way any of this could work out is if Kareem Hunt signs a cheap, incentive-filled deal. The Bears would also need to be absolutely certain that Hunt’s off-field issues are resolved. Those are a lot of if’s, but if the Bears and Hunt could come to terms on a deal, Chicago would be that much closer to a Super Bowl.
