Antonio Brown has been widely regarded as the best receiver in football, and rightfully so. Brown has brought in over 100 receptions in each of his past six seasons. In each season, he’s collected over 1,200 receiving yards and at least 8 TDs, as well. The seven-time Pro-Bowler has had great success in Pittsburgh after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
This past week, Brown expressed his frustration with his QB and the organization by allegedly getting into a heated argument with Ben Roethlisberger and going AWOL for the final practices of last week. Brown was listed as inactive for Sunday’s game against the Bengals and left at halftime. Since then, Brown has reportedly requested a trade from the organization. So, where would be the most likely landing spots for Antonio Brown if he were to be traded?
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Bill Belichick has never been afraid to go get something he wants. He wanted to help his QB this season, so he traded for Josh Gordon who had a few good games. Just days before their final regular season game against the Jets, it was announced that Gordon left the team to take care of his mental health. Later that day, it was reported that he’d been suspended indefinitely for violating the terms of his reinstatement. This leaves a wide-open spot for a talented receiver like Antonio Brown.
As of right now, Tom Brady only has Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski as legitimate threats. If Brady does decide to come back next year, A.B. could be the guy to get Tom Brady his sixth Super Bowl ring.
Washington Redskins
The Redskins let go of Kirk Cousins for a reason. Cousins wasn’t a game-changing QB, and they got an equally talented QB for less money. The only reason Cousins was more productive in his first year with the Vikings was because he had actual talent surrounding him. If the Redskins want to give themselves a chance to succeed in the upcoming seasons, they need to surround their QB with a game-changing WR.
Washington has had injury trouble over the past couple years, including this past season. That’s the only reason I’m giving Alex Smith a break. The talent surrounding him is absolutely horrendous, and the only talented players ended up getting injured this year. Chris Thompson, Paul Richardson, and Jordan Reed are all injury-prone. That doesn’t seem like that will be changing anytime soon. If the Redskins want to compete, they need a talented game-changer like Brown.
Baltimore Ravens
This one is kind of a long-shot, but it could happen. The Ravens and Steelers are arch-rivals, so it’d cost a lot for the Ravens to trade for the All-Pro receiver.
Baltimore just drafted their franchise quarterback, but they have no weapons for him. They have a top-three defense, and if they could trade for an All-Pro, top-five NFL receiver to pair with Lamar Jackson’s abilities, they could win Super Bowls……PLURAL.
The best receiver Lamar Jackson has is John Brown, who had just over 40 receptions and five TDs on the season. Jackson needs a reliable target to go to, and I can’t think of anybody better than Antonio Brown to fill that role for the Ravens. If they can move on from Flacco’s contract, they can afford Brown’s.
